Something about me that's not covered in my bio: I love to learn languages. So far, I've studied 8: French, German, Spanish, Urdu, Japanese, Norwegian, Mandarin and Ojibwe.

French is my most fluent. The others I only studied about 2 years each.

Except Ojibwe: <1 year. Lessons interrupted by pandemic. And it fascinates me. I like that it is truly of THIS place. And it's verb based, which affects one's worldview. I hope to return to it in person one day.

New map restores Native names to northern Minnesota | Dan Kraker

"The names of many lakes, rivers and cities across northern Minnesota have roots in the Ojibwe language — Bemidji, for example, is derived from the word bemijigamaag meaning "Lake with crossing waters" — a reference to how the Mississippi River flows across Lake Bemidji.

But the names of many more places have been lost to history.

Now, a partnership between the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, the nonprofit Ely Folk School, and several volunteer artists is seeking to change that. This week they’re unveiling a map that features more than 100 Ojibwe place names from across the Band’s territory, including names uncovered in diaries stored in the Smithsonian dating back to the 1800s...

@LibraryandTea That’s so great!
My kid makes me smile. We needed a ruler to draw some straight lines. He went upstairs to look for one. He came down with his own #Lego created ruler as he couldn’t find any “proper” ones.
User @gainofdystopia, I do like that. 😆

No better place than Twitter to talk about Musk's projects crashing and burning, so: I've just launched a petition calling on #Toronto to end Tesla's unsafe beta test of "full self-driving" in city limits:

Toronto: End Tesla's nonconsensual test trials

On November 24th, Tesla expanded it's beta test of "full self-driving" software to everyone in North America. [1] Just hours later, a six-car pileup on the Bay Bridge was caused by a Tesla suddenly stopping; two people were hospitalized. [2] Tesla's misleadingly named "full self-driving" feature - which is not full self-driving at all, but rather requires human override at all times - is still in beta testing, meaning it is *not* market ready. In fact, the US Department of Justice is...
