"EFF’s founding case over 30 years ago, Steve Jackson Games v. Secret Service, was in part a story about the overbroad seizures of equipment in the offices of Steve Jackson Games in Texas, based upon unfounded claims about illegal behavior in a 1990s version of a chat room."

Does EFF have a take on the kolektiva seizure and the future of the fediverse? You bet.

FBI Seizure of Mastodon Server Data is a Wakeup Call to Fediverse Users and Hosts to Protect their Users

We’re in an exciting time for users who want to take back control from major platforms like Twitter and Facebook. However, this new environment comes with challenges and risks for user privacy, so we need to get it right and make sure networks like the Fediverse and Bluesky are mindful of past...

#WireGuard becomes the first VPN app on #FDroid to be built reproducibly! This means that WireGuard on F-Droid is now guaranteed to be 100% (bit-by-bit) equal to the WireGuard the developer builds.

If you're using WireGuard from F-Droid, please export your tunnels and re-install to switch to the developer's signature and continue receiving updates.

More details in the official WireGuard announcement: https://lists.zx2c4.com/pipermail/wireguard/2023-April/008045.html

Android Reproducible Builds & Signing Key Changes

F-Droid Basic just got released for the first time. Built from the same code as regular @fdroidorg, it comes with a reduced feature set (no nearby share and no panic feature). Also it targets Android 13 and will soon be able to do unattended updates.
Okay, Mastodon friends, I rarely ask for amplification about my day job, but I personally pushed for my employer to make a big investment in enabling the fediverse, and I'd love for everyone to show that the support is appreciated. On June 28, you can join us for a (FREE!) hands-on conversation about how the Fastly team worked to support @Mastodon while the service was under a *massive* DDOS attack. Everyone who cares about scaling the fediverse should join: https://learn.fastly.com/security-mitigating-ddos-and-traffic-surges-with-mastodon @devs
Mitigating DDOS in the Fediverse with Mastodon | Fastly

Experts from Mastodon and Fastly’s CSOC team share lessons learned from mitigating DDOS attacks on Mastodon Social and techniques for protecting federated architectures.

Twitter, Reddit, and the PGA Tour are three examples of things that have no value as businesses beyond the attention that we choose to give them. I spent tons of time on Twitter before I decided that I was no longer happy giving it my attention. I watched endless hours of PGA Tour golf (don't judge me!) but if the sale to Saudi Arabia goes through, this weekend marks the end of that. All they have is us and we can choose to say no.
TechCrunch has a good writeup of the Reddit CEO's astoundingly arrogant showing in an AMA about the company's astoundingly arrogant API changes, which now seem designed to put third-party apps out of business. What slimy behavior he's showing... https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/
