the only time you should hand over your ID like a passport or stuff like that is when you absolutely need to. for example like crossing international borders, opening or operating a bank account or applying for a driver's license. those are all valid cases and highly regulated.

but this for profit corporation will just use your data to target you for profit. they even sold mobile phone numbers used for 2FA to advertisers. can you really trust them now with this nonsense?

I was today years old when I found out LinkedIn has a chronological timeline mode*, and why LinkedIn recommends against enabling it in the settings. Because once you do, you’ll see that people aren’t talking about AI, agents and LLMs anywhere near as much as LinkedIn would have you think. My feed just went from ~90% AI hype to one with only the occasional post on the topic. Almost as if one of the companies most invested in the bubble would use a platform they own to inflate it.

(Could be that it’s an EU-only thing? I remember hearing about an EU requirement like this in the past. If so, I’m sorry if it’s not available to you. The free market will sort it out, I’m sure.)

The home screens on Apple iOS apps are just hideous.

In Preview - those weird background docs stacked behind the black rectangle. You can’t tap them - they’re just aesthetic clutter, taking up space.

The way the scrolling area is covered by the primary menu buttons, with unreadable ā€œLocationsā€ truncated to ā€œLoā€. No clarity between the menu edges of the buttons and what they overlap.

In Numbers you can see the transparent buttons overlayed on top of the transparent scroll window.

Researching the corporate bullshit generator (it’s a thing).

Findings? People who fall for the corporate bullshit consistently make worse decisions.

Who is surprised? Not me.

For folks who can parse language & think clearly, failure to challenge incoherent pap indicates obedience & a tacit agreement to keep critical & ethical analysis out of the workplace.

For those who don’t see through it (or who doubt their own assessments), compliance gives the comfortable feeling of ā€˜the smart people know what they’re talking about, if I stay with them I’ll be ok’.

In many workplaces this is a necessary condition for career advancement.

To often it is the case in academia also.

Who benefits perpetuating this crap? Those who wish to manipulate populations via bullshit.

We see you.

Trump retreats on the 48 hour warning to Iran and pushes it to Friday after markets close. It's all market manipulation at this point.

The U.S.-Israel war on Iran is now in its fourth week, and the economic reverberations continue to be felt all over the world.

In case anyone didn't hear, the jury came back almost immediately with a decision in #Afroman 's favor with no money going to the cops.

@anon_opin the class mechanism that capitalism employs requires a perpetually hungry underclass. Without a class of people under threat of starvation, most jobs wouldn't have workers. If there was no socio-economic punishment for being poor, people wouldn't reach for soul grinding jobs. And those are the ones capitalists need most. Class being fluid under capitalism is a threat presented as an opportunity.
