Your chance to prove that mastodon has a hive mind too, even on a Sunday: any recommendations for readings@on/connected to social network analysis for a seminar of first-year students?
Unsettling to watch Bolsonaro's supporters, motivated by election lies, invading government buildings in Brazil's capital today. Bolsonaro and his family members helped Trump push his false claims about the US 2020 election that led to the insurrection attempt on January 6, 2021. Not surprising, but still horrifying, to see Bolsonaro and his supporters continue to follow that playbook. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/01/08/bolsonaro-invade-congress-lula/

Are you a person who was around in, or knows a lot about, 1970s/1980s fandoms? I'm working on a project about spoilers and want to learn more about early uses of the term in its modern sense. I'm reading Usenet archives; do you have memories of earlier emergent uses? Please share! Non-fandom memories and leads also welcome, of course.
@skwinnicki Hope you feel better soon!

New AI, same biases. ChatGPT written lyrics: “If you see a woman in a lab coat, She's probably just there to clean the floor / But if you see a man in a lab coat, Then he's probably got the knowledge and skills you're looking for.”

An important synthesis from Sonia Livingstone &co which reminds us that the impact of digital technologies on the mental health of young people is both contextual & depends on the individuals in question. There are no absolute answers, but there are better practices and ways to support young people!
