@andeed visit your instance's address-- assuming you're also on mastodon.world. If you then choose Advanced web interface in your profile, you get all the columns. I can't imagine doing this on a phone tbh

Just discovered something about the Advanced Web View. You can Pin a column! Under the slider in the top right corner of the column, you should see the option. If you Pin your Local Timeline, for example, it stays up there. The arrows let you shift the column from side to side. #newuser #mastodontips

Lesson learned: when writing to individual people, best to use the DM option rather than a public post. Public posts show up on your timeline and can be misinterpreted by people who don't know the context. But do remember that DMs are not encrypted and anyone you @ in a DM can read the message as well.

the 2000 election bullshit. that inflection point was then closely followed by the "Patriot Act" in the wake of 9/11 with tons of "Middle Americans" wetting their pants about terrorism. Scared people who will cede basic freedoms are ripe for the picking by fascists
