We criticize the small false equivalences reporters engage in because they can give way to bigger ones, like pretending Her Email is as important as everything else combined.

@foser

Brought to mind this classic from Time in 2012, claiming that the Obama campaign's small exaggerations were somehow *worse* than Romney's blatant lies:

"Compared with the Obama campaign’s, the Romney operation’s misstatements are frequently more brazen. But sometimes the most effective lie is the one that is closest to the truth, and Obama’s team has often outdone Romney’s in the dark art of subtle distortion."

Who Lies More? Yet Another Close Contest

To find out who shaded the truth most often, TIME asked each campaign for a list of its rival's worst deceptions.

@foser One thing I always enjoyed on The Bird was the “NYTimes Pitch Bot” snark of @[email protected], often pertaining to these false equivalences.

New York Times Pitchbot (@DougJBalloon)

Whether it's Donald Trump using troops to clear a park for a photo-op with a Bible, or Joe Biden using Vogue employees to clear the South Lawn for a wedding, both sides have misused critical workers to advance their own political interests.

@foser Reporters never admit they were wrong in how they covered someone, never learn from their mistakes, are incredibly thin skinned when criticized and never ever change. Now they all know and have worked with each other because they move between Politico, NYT, WP, AP, Axios, Punchbowl and the networks and cable. Cable couldn't survive without the DC media to opine constantly. It's incestuous and there's no competition nor accountability. They count on each other to plug their books.
@foser The reporters who covered that story failed to uncover basic facts
1. The Russian hackers were in State's official email system
2. The "secure" electronic message system used by State was the Wikileaks one which turned out to be 100% insecure
3. State's inspector general had concluded State's email system was unusable and many employees had to use their personal ones.
4. The only method for archiving emails at state was to print them out and put the hardcopies in boxes.
