I'm Max, the Pacific Mastodon! I enjoy long walks in the Pleistocene, the exhibit hall at
Western Science Center, and being cooler than mammoths.

Why do you have to be this way, Camptosaurus?

Most dinosaurs are elegant animals. Tyrannosaurs are elegant biting machines. Chasmosaurs are elegent. Brachiosaurs are hella elegant. Even ankylosaurs have their own robust elegance. And then there's Camptosaurus. Why do you have to be so lumpen? What's your head doing down there? What the heck are your ilia doing up there? What are they even supposed to be, TV aerials?

Sauropod Vertebra Picture of the Week

Yesterday we stopped at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument to make a special delivery. @westernsciencecenter has produced 9 #3dprints of the #Eocene rhino relative Zaisanamynodon for the monument. The original specimens are currently on display at the Thomas Condon Visitor Center, but they are on loan from the UC Berkeley Museum of Paleontology and are being returned to their home museum. Our 3D prints will take their place in the exhibit.

It’s #FossilFriday! This is a #3dprint of the cranium of Zaisanamynodon, from the #Eocene of Oregon. Amynodontids like this are an extinct family related to the rhinoceroses.

This print was made @westernsciencecenter based on a specimen from the UC Berkeley Museum of Paleontology. The original was found in what is now John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Next week we’re delivering this and other prints to them for their exhibits and programming. #paleontology #scicomm #npspaleo #3dprinting

Anyone can be a klutz sometimes! “Clumsy Critters”, a new exhibit @westernsciencecenter, features 4 fossil animals that managed to hurt themselves during their lives.

Today the @westernsciencecenter Mobile Museum #M3 is in San Jacinto CA for the grand opening of a new Jersey Mike’s. This location is donating a portion of this week’s sales to the museum! #museum #paleontology #fossil
This August, @westernsciencecenter is opening an exhibit that will have a mix of original fossils, casts, and 3D prints. Our printers have been working overtime to make dozens of prints, including these awaiting painting. #3dprinting #museums #scicomm #fossils #FossilFriday #paleontology
For the next 2 days I’ll be with the @westernsciencecenter Mobile Museum #M3 at ComiCon Revolution in Ontario California! #scicomm #outreach #paleontology
The Inland Empire Science Festival #IESF23 is this Saturday at @westernsciencecenter in Hemet! Besides the museum, over 20 other organizations will be on hand to show off their science wares. And of course I’LL be there! If you’re in SoCal and have even a passing interest in science, attendance is mandatory! IESF is included with museum admission. #SciComm
Today I’m with Max’s Mobile Museum #M3 at Valle Vista Elementary School near Hemet, California. #paleontology #fossil #museum #outreach #scicomm @westernsciencecenter
