Today I had breakfast with my oldest (pun intended) friends, and one of them, who’s a 3D printing nerd, gave me the most awesome belated birthday present ever.

Hospitals worldwide are increasingly bringing 3D printing in-house, creating their own labs to produce patient-specific implants, surgical guides and anatomical models. Benefits include shorter operation times, better surgical preparation and reduced costs. https://www.3dnatives.com/en/8-reasons-3d-printing-in-hospitals-27032026/ #3Dprint #3Dprinting #Medical #Biotech
8 Reasons to Integrate 3D Printing in Hospitals - 3Dnatives

Why should hospitals adopt 3D printing? What are the benefits of such an investment? Here are 8 concrete reasons!

MIT Professor John Hart discusses building an additive manufacturing curriculum focused on application-based problem solving, and a new manufacturing initiative that bridges academia and industry. Hart argues AM should not be treated as a standalone specialism but combined with conventional manufacturing expertise. https://www.tctmagazine.com/in-conversation-with-john-hart-mit/ #3Dprint #3Dprinting #Industrial #MIT

Researchers at Arizona State University and UNSW Sydney are using artificial intelligence and 3D printing to develop new heat-resistant alloys for aerospace and defence applications. The team uses reinforcement learning to identify alloy compositions that can be reliably printed, addressing a key challenge in manufacturing components for extreme environments. https://theconversation.com/ai-and-3d-printing-help-researchers-create-heat-and-pressure-resistant-materials-for-aerospace-and-defense-applications-273687 #3Dprint #3Dprinting #AI #Materials

I'm impressed with what affordable 3D scanners can do. The height of the text on the arms is around 5 mm, and the indentations is far sub-millimeter; and yet the scanner captures it in detail. The quoted resolution of the scanner, a Creality Otter, is 0.02 mm, and it delivers. This figure was definitely not an easy scan, being reflective black. #3dprint #3dscan #NSFW

Hat schon mal jemand 3D-Drucke aus PLA oder PETG mit Wasserglas behandelt? Zum Beispiel zum Abdichten?
Mich würden da Erfahrungen interessieren.

I'm now making my first 3d design, a lid for cat food containers, based on Erika's tutorial.

So fun to have something useful designed and ready to print in 5 minutes.
