It is literally the work of a second to sign this petition to raise the PhD stipend in Australia. This should be a no-brainer, but the government needs a push. With inflation, some PhD students are even homeless. Please share widely on all your networks: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN5085

Scientific American: Intelligence reports supporting the lab-leak theory for COVID are not based in science.
"An intelligence estimate, particularly one developed in only 90 days, is simply not enough to determine how a virus leaped into humans. Science requires more. So far, the scientific evidence leans toward an accidental transfer from animals to humans, probably at the Wuhan animal market."

Politically conservative doctors (at least in the US) are more likely to dismiss evidence that ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine are ineffective.

Not surprising for social scientists who are aware of the brain-melting power of political identity, but maybe a surprise to people who put medical practice on a pedestal.

Presumably Travis Head would have drilled the ball straight back first ball and run out Smith? Only way he could have done worse. #INDvAUS #BorderGavaskarTrophy #Cricket

A ridiculously sensible look at how hard it is for anyone to make confident claims about COVID-19 NPIs by @gidmk

This is a warning to ignore those who do so and a reminder to professional science communicators to understand how to communicate scientific uncertainty effectively.

And yes, many of us are already preparing for the next inevitable infectious disease outbreak, which is increasingly more likely in part due to climate change.

We Still Don’t Know What Works Best to Slow the Spread Of COVID-19

Because of a lack of research, we still can’t answer important questions about what reduced the spread of COVID-19
