Thrilled to see our new #GRL study on changes in #drought generation processes and severity in the Alps as an editor's highlight in @AGU_Eos, @theAGU and #AGUpubs:

Streamflow Drought Intensification in the European Alps

A five-decade analysis of drought generation processes in the Alps shows their changing seasonality in high-elevation basins with increasingly frequent droughts caused by a lack of snowmelt water.

Very happy to share our new study on how ‘Hydrological drought generation mechanisms and magnitudes are changing in the Alps’ published in #GRL with J. Götte, A. Van Loon, and C. Schlemper: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2022GL101776
We show that:
(1) Changes in both drought magnitude and generation processes in the Alps are stronger in high- than in low-elevation catchments.
(2) In high-elevation catchments, snowmelt-deficit-induced droughts become more frequent, leading to increases in drought deficits.
#introduction:
I am a joint assistant professor at ETH Zurich and SLF Davos leading the 'Hydrology & climate impacts' group. My research focuses on climatic and hydrological extremes with a special focus on compound events and the drivers, prediction, and changes of extremes. I am particularly interested in #floods, #droughts, and #wildfires.
