'neighbourhood' would be a better name than 'instances' for #mastodon.

non techies would understand that analogy. you will see more 'toots' from your neighbors but can be also be friends (follow) anyone from any 'neighbourhood' to see their toots.

Because of the way this works, I may respond to someone on here using my wandering.shop log in.. my pics are the same, so hopefully no one will get confused.. but feel free to follow both accounts if you wish :-D

So.. who gives up on a book if it’s not working for you.. and who perseveres no matter what?

And if you’re happy to stop, do you try to get to a certain point before you make that decision?

Because I'm an easily confused doofus, I've taken to thinking about Mastodon like:

Home: My neighborhood
Local timeline: My Zip Code
Federated timeline: The Whole Friggin' World
Instances: A parallel universe/AU

The best thing about Mastodon right now is the incredibly indie slant to the creators who've migrated here. Queer folks, folks of color, and women creating and telling their own stories in a space unencumbered by industry gatekeeping sentiments? This is great.
