Most companies making vast profits also pay their staff pitiful wages.

Their staff end up claiming Universal Credit in order to survive.

UC is funded from taxation which the greedy companies (& wealthy tax avoiders) avoid paying.

Which means we're subsidising greedy parasites that buy right-wing politicians.

Those right-wing politicians scapegoat the poorest & most vulnerable in society to distract people from the inequalities caused by greedy companies & tax avoiders that hoard vast wealth.

Seems an appropriate time to repeat this.

Our sub-species emerged in the Great Rift Valley around a quarter million years ago.

Unless your family has lived there for all that time, you are an immigrant or descended from immigrants, wherever you are. The rest is just arbitrary cut-off dates, none of which are scientifically meaningful.

You can still run a café. Start a band. Sell socks online. Capitalism still works in Finland.

But they decided that housing people didn't need to turn a profit.

Because sometimes, the moral thing is the practical thing. And no one thrives when their neighbour is sleeping in a tent by the river.

You can't KPI your way out of a crisis. Sometimes, you just have to give a damn.

I am afraid what they will do with that.

Every time Trump has bad press, his go-to move is to flood the media with an even bigger story.

Right now, he does not want people talking about his failed attempt to illegally freeze billions of dollars for healthcare, soup kitchens and more, so what does he do?

Addresses the nation saying he wants to send immigrants to Guantanamo — a real headline grabber.

It does not have to be possible or even legal — he just triggers the news story to move the focus away from his failed funding freeze.
