Happy to be here! Main interests are #politics and #genealogy, but small talk makes the word go 'round.
After the report about the Girl Scout mom getting booted from Radio City Music Hall, I spent the last two days reporting out the use of facial recognition technology by the Madison Square Garden empire to keep hundreds of lawyers that work for firms that have sued it from attending concerts, sporting events and shows. It is a radical use of the technology by a private company and I am truly shocked by how forthright MSG is about its real-world block list. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/22/nyregion/madison-square-garden-facial-recognition.html
Madison Square Garden Uses Facial Recognition to Ban Its Owner’s Enemies

MSG Entertainment, the owner of the arena and Radio City Music Hall, has put lawyers who represent people suing it on an “exclusion list” to keep them out of concerts and sporting events.

Salmon have been decimated by dams, overfishing and habitat loss. Now climate change threatens their survival, too.

For tribal people, losing salmon threatens not only their diet, but their way of life.

A reminder because I feel like many have forgotten about this.

Nancy New—who Brett Favre texted to confirm media wouldn’t find out he’s getting $5M in Mississippi welfare funds—has pled guilty to welfare fraud. She's likely going to prison.

John Davis—the former MS welfare director—has pled guilty to welfare fraud. He's likely going to prison.

So here's my question: Why isn’t Brett Favre—who was the beneficiary of that MS welfare fraud—arrested yet?

DOJ: Charge Favre & demand accountability.

Democrats will NOT be raising the debt ceiling thanks to Senator Manchin who said no & Senator Sinema who would NOT stay in DC to fight it out. All other House & Senate Democrats were on board.

This means the next House Speaker can hold Social Security & Medicare hostage! Thank goodness we elected John Fetterman and re-elected Senator Raphael Warnock.

Nice story at @theintercept by Daniel Boguslaw:

Chuck Grassley, a longtime defender of whistleblowers and a free press, was pushed by hard-right Sen. Tom Cotton into killing a whistleblower-protection measure.

Speaking out against the proposal, Cotton said that releasing the Pentagon Papers was an example of criminality that exactly does not deserve protection. https://theintercept.com/2022/12/19/chuck-grassley-press-act/

Grassley, a staunch defender of press freedom and whistleblower rights, said he doesn’t think that the PRESS Act will be included in year-end legislation.
