@Free_Press Republicans are now scapegoating immigrants like Hitler scapegoated Jews, and the Republican Party has assigned them the lowest possible place on the social hierarchy much like the Hindus assigned to the Dalit. They have been entirely dehumanized. Now Trump wants to round them up and put them in concentration camps, but it wouldn't stop there. Hitler sent not only Jews to the camps but anyone who opposed him. #politics #USpolitics #Trump #Nazification

"you must understand something: I’m an Israeli, and when I say what I say, I say it because I care for the state of #Israel. And this is in the interest of the state of Israel, to take these measures that I propose, not because I care for the Palestinians. I care for us.

we can’t afford to continue to live under circumstances where there are millions of people without rights, which we occupy without giving them the basic elementary rights that they deserve...

—Ehud Olmert, Vox interview

just to be clear:

if you read the whole interview, i hope one of your takeaways is that this bombing of #Gaza is a #policyFailure for the state of #Israel.

what policy you may ask?

#settlerColonialism

Ehud Olmert says it right there, as plain as day:

"the only possible way to guarantee our future is to make an effort for a two-state solution, to pull out from the territories, and to have a smaller state."

Ben Gvir, the guy rubber-stamping the bombings, is the face of that policy failure.

"As soon as #Trump offered these comments ["we will root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists, and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin..."], historians (both professional and amateur) noted that they echoed the rhetoric of fascist leaders like Adolf #Hitler and Benito #Mussolini.

This raises a new question: Is Trump doing so knowingly — or is he simply following the same path those dictators walked?"

Trump reminds us: History also repeats when people take the wrong lessons

Donald Trump’s use of language echoing Adolf Hitler in particular is a reminder of his superficial understanding of autocrats and dictators.

The Washington Post

The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin just said (on Threads) that last night's results show that 90% of political reporting is garbage.

That's because 90% of "coverage" is speculation and opinion. An email from the NYT "The Tilt" assured me that it was a good night for Democrats but that doesn't mean anything for 2024.

Rubbish.

Elections tell us how voters feel. Polls do not and pundits do not.

One under-appreciated takeaway from yesterday's election results:

No one contested the results. No one called the election results fake or fraudulent. Losers all conceded gracefully.

More of this please! 🙏🏻

I don’t get it. Biden has done a fantastic job as president and seen us through some of the toughest times in recent history. The economy is strong, unemployment is at 60-year lows, inflation is tamed. But there are people calling for that youngster to drop out? (I have 6 years on him…) Why aren’t they calling on the guy who’s been indicted in four places and charged 91 times to drop out?
stop trying to bring about the end times you weirdos
Speaker Mike Johnson claims he hasn’t had a qualifying bank account or financial asset to disclose since 2016. That would seem rather incredible, given that he has a mortgage and is in the top 12 percent of income earners. His excuse? “I am a man of modest means.” Sorry, no. That’s not an answer, Mike. Where did all the funds go?

WOWOWOW.

It must really suck for all those people whose full time job it is to **report** on Congress who should have known better about this being an "offset."

Surely they're all crafting apologies for their subscribers right now?

Jake Sherman:

🚨 BREAKING -- CBO says the #House's #Israel aid bill is not offset at all.

Will add $12.5B to the deficit in the next decade.

Cuts to IRS will decrease revenue by $26.7B
