Speaker Mike Johnson claims he hasn’t had a qualifying bank account or financial asset to disclose since 2016. That would seem rather incredible, given that he has a mortgage and is in the top 12 percent of income earners. His excuse? “I am a man of modest means.” Sorry, no. That’s not an answer, Mike. Where did all the funds go?
@georgetakei I wonder why he’s so interested in cutting IRS spending …. Probably just a coincidence
@masta @georgetakei he obviously has unproperly registered money somewhere...
@georgetakei That $174k has to go somewhere. We know his "son" is diligently monitoring his pornography consumption, so the money isn't going towards Only Fans subscriptions, or Grindr Premium. It's not really plausible for a grown man earning a significant income to not have a bank account.

@georgetakei

He must have sold all his worldly possessions and given the proceeds to the poor lest they weigh him down as he follows Christ.

It's only fair that every officeholding Republican be subject to the same financial scrutiny that the Biden family has endured. It's only fair. Start with the most powerful first as they constitute the largest security risk.

@georgetakei I don't even understand how that would work technically when paying off a house. Does he carry cash to the bank every month?
@georgetakei If he really does keep all his money in cash stuffed in his mattress, or spends all his income immediately and saves nothing (despite having a comparatively high income), that would also be concerning for his ability to play any leading role in politics and the nation's finances.
@georgetakei sounds like clarence thomas
@georgetakei It doesn’t seem possible. He makes $14k per month and apparently his wife has income as well. His mortgage can’t be more than $2k. Where does the rest go? Why has he not saved for his family? Or more accurately, why isn’t he making accurate financial disclosures?
@georgetakei it's all in a crypto wallet

@georgetakei

Check his mattress. You know, the one that is suspiciously thicker than any Simmons mattress ever made.

@georgetakei I wonder if he has any gold bars...
@georgetakei my son needed a bank account to get a job washing up in a pub. The idea anyone with any sort of means could not have a bank account is ridiculous. But if he is going to lie he might as well lie big!
@georgetakei
That's an insult for every person of modest means who think the govt should represent their needs, too.

@georgetakei

If he is a man of modest means, wouldn't he want an emergency savings account?

@georgetakei I wonder what Jesus would say about this... oh wait, we don't have to guess. Look up the parable of the talents. As a so-called devout Christian, looks like Mike needs to account for the money with which he's been entrusted.
@georgetakei
Reminds me of the song cotton eyed joe, the money.
where did you come from, where did you go?
@georgetakei How does he cash his paycheck? At the local liquor store?
@georgetakei paying off Kavanaugh’s gambling debts?
@georgetakei It’s like that time Bertie Ahern (Irish Prime Minister) said he had no bank account 1987-1993 when he was the Irish Finance Minister https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ahern-defends-having-no-bank-account-1.993441
Ahern defends having no bank account

There was "nothing in the law or the Constitution" that required a person to have a bank account, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern told…

The Irish Times
@georgetakei Who pays #Johnson’s bills? What does he have in his wallet and whose wallet is it really? This smells of sulfur. #GOP #Unfit
@georgetakei This is exactly why they want to defund the IRS.
