@JugglingWithEggs my mam had the Labour candidate who came to our door in tears (unintentionally, I hasten to add). She obviously had to be fairly circumspect in what she said, but from her responses to what my mam said it seemed like she felt simultaneously betrayed by Labour’s current leadership and frightened of the possibility of Reform taking control. Reform are campaigning hard round here and we haven’t heard a peep out of the Greens so it’s a fear I share

It’s been instructional this week to watch the Establishment and majority of the media attempt to take down Zack #Polanski for the crime of questioning whether the police should be allowed to kick in the heads of suspects once they’ve been tasered to the ground.

This has enabled all genuine discussion on local politics to be pushed aside.

How very useful when #Labour and #Tories are going to be thrashed and #Reform have no manifesto to speak of other than racism and climate denial.

Because the British electorate are not as ignorant and disinterested as #Reform UK would like to believe they are:

‘A Survation poll for 38 Degrees, a progressive campaign group, said more than two-thirds of the British public (68%) had concerns the gift could give #Harborne “inappropriate influence” over #Farage ‘a political decisions and priorities.’

No such thing as a ‘personal’ gift of millions of pounds when you are a politician.

Google Chrome is silently installing a local LLM on your computer that is 4 gigabytes in size. It's done without consent, it's not visible in the settings, and removing it will reinstall it later.

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. The pattern is identical to the Anthropic Claude Desktop case I wrote about last month, but the scale is between two and three orders of magnitude larger. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.

I’m not normally one to brag, but I had a potato waffle butty for my tea 😋

‘Most #Reform led councils have failed to deliver. Despite plenty of local campaign literature promising reduced taxes, several have acknowledged that they were unable to find waste.

All Reform councils have raised council tax, in some cases having to request government approval to raise them above the government limit. All have failed to cut borrowing.’

Reform in power: do people know what they are voting for?

All the evidence suggests that on 7 May, Reform UK will take control of many local councils. Do people know what they are voting for?

The first numbers are out on the solar canals. Water evaporation reduced by 70%, algae growth by 85%.

Plus you generate electricity without using extra land, and nobody cares if the "roof" it's installed on leaks in the rain.

Solar on canals reduces water evaporation by 70% and algae growth by 85%

The 1.6 MW Nexus pilot project in California has demonstrated that solar panels installed over irrigation canals can significantly reduce water evaporation and algae growth by 85%, while also showing operational efficiency.

The United Kingdom has ended prosecutions for women who terminate their own pregnancies, as well as approving pardons for women convicted of doing abortions illegally, and expunging the police records of those arrested and investigated over illegal abortions.

Research suggests that as many women have been charged in the last 20 years as in the entire 19th century, when judges often treated defendants with greater compassion.

MPs and peers approve law to pardon women convicted over abortions as far back as 1800s

Law will also expunge police records for women arrested in England and Wales, and stop future prosecutions
