I finished The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson this weekend (2011, ~600 pages).

She weaves together the life narratives of three individuals with an approachable analysis of historical trends & forces.

I was raised in rural northern Michigan, and only knew the experience of black Americans in the broad swaths typical to public school. I realize now that narrative has a giant blank spot between end of reconstruction and the start of the civil rights movement.

Ran into an odd snag with #Dalle today. It refused to run my prompt of "W. E. B. Du Bois wearing a 1920's negro league baseball uniform and leaning on a baseball bat at the pitcher's mound. 1920s baseball card, vibrant, joyful, exciting, fauvist". I removed "negro league" and it ran properly.

Unsure how to handle terms that are offensive in the modern era, but would have been the language used during the period and learned by Dalle. It did good enough with baseball player though. #Art #Ai
