I'm an enthusiastic software developer. My hobbies include playing games in the geekiest way imaginable (analyzing mechanics every single frame), playing the piano and putting artificial intelligence to the test.

An awful side effect of being a game developer 🤓.
You're excited to play what you've made in the early-to-mid stages of development, but by the time the game is ready, you hate even seeing the main character on the screen because that thing's code alone has traumatized you almost as much as your school bully did 😀

Today I've learned that NPC dialogs are quite a game changer in the game world. There's visual, there's audio, and then there's speech that goes on between characters. It gives a huge boost to the engagement with the game world, and the overall experience.

Yesterday I learned that AI doesn't have to be necessarily writing code or automating the tasks I have to do. Sometimes the best thing it can do is to think in a direction other than your own way of thinking, and that can go a long way.

My indie devs, don't sleep on sound design! 🔊 It's more than SFX lists - placement & timing define your game's feel (think silent horror!). Good audio = crucial immersion & player engagement. Make it count!
BTW, are you exploring procedural audio? It's nice and fancy, exactly as the name sounds like.
