A #NorthCarolina policy that denies state employees coverage for gender-affirming care has been on hold pending appeal.

For one #transgender worker still awaiting surgery, the anxiety is “like somebody has got their hands around my neck.”

Lots of conversation and swirl over the past few days. Here's what hasn't changed, and isn't going to change:

* A space that is safe for white queer people, and not safe for Black queer people, is not a "safe space for queer people."
* We will make the Fediverse safe for people of all backgrounds
* We will make it safer, easier, and cheaper, for admins to keep the most toxic abuse away from their users
* We will take our time designing blocklists and composable moderation.

My interview in Broad Agenda about PERIOD is up! My favorite pull-quote:

"Equating menstruation with weakness or emotional instability is such a tiresome, tired way of conceptualizing the uterus. I mean, if you’re going to be sexist, at least try to be clever about it."

Periods are "actually kind of weirdly cool" - BroadAgenda

Menstruation is something half the world does for a week at a time, for months and years on end, yet it remains largely misunderstood. Scientists once thought of an individual’s period as useless, and some doctors still believe it’s unsafe for a menstruating person to swim in the ocean wearing a tampon. A new book […]

I have talked to almost twenty people so far for this book and can I tell you how absolutely cool it is to just, like, email a scientist whose work you admire and ask them all about it?

Once upon a time, there was a community called Little Details on LiveJournal. It was a place where fiction writers of all kinds could ask for help with their fact-checking and research. It was a huge, amazing resource before the collapse of LiveJournal took it down.

I recently decided to try resurrecting it on Dreamwidth. It's now open and ready for questions. Come check it out, and boost if you're so inclined!

@cbdawson I also know lots of people who've had kids who aren't women. I devote a whole section of my previous book to thinking through inclusive language here. I am thinking through language use when I'm not talking about the people but the processes - I'm writing about the science of gestation and pregnancy loss and the primary language in that field is still to discuss the maternal and fetal sides. Parental doesn't feel specific enough, but if I can't find anything else I'll probably do that.
