This is a very effective weapon that should be automated to be used frequently. Imagine the impact if majority of organizations did this counter attack.

It’s time to be more proactive, and attack is sometimes the best defense.

Kudos

As Hyperloop One shuts down, we need to remember that the Hyperloop was never meant to be built.

Elon Musk’s goal was never to transform transportation for the masses, but to stop or delay high-speed rail from reaching North America. Sadly, he succeeded — and we all lost as a result. While the rest of the world moved forward, the US remains stuck in the past.

The Hyperloop was always a scam

It's time to be honest about Musk's vacuum tube to nowhere

It's getting to be that time of year again, so if you're at a family event with people who are shitty to you or make you feel unsafe and you want to leave, drop me a DM and I'll call you with an excuse. Work disaster, pet emergency, or whatever pretext works for you - we can figure something out.

Anything shared is 100% confidential and I won't ask for any info beyond the minimum needed to call with the excuse. Anywhere in the world is fine - calls are cheap, your safety isn't. ♥️

This is not satire.

The former president is trying to sell cardboard cards with cartoon drawings of himself for 99 dollars each. And if you buy 100 cards, you get a small slice of the suit he wore, when his mugshot was taken in prison.

There are 2,024 tiny slices of the suit, potentially raking in 20 million dollars. BUT to get the premium offer, you have to pay in bitcoin — you know… the currency the state cannot stop, if you are about to flee to Russia or North Korea to escape prison.

Wow.

flabbergasting stat:

COP28: Total amount pledged to help developing countries with loss and damage from climate change: $656 million

Contract for baseball player Shohei Ohtani with the LA Dodgers: $700 million

I want to give a quick shout-out to @netzpolitik_feed for continuously providing quality coverage of chatcontrol as well as many other important topics regarding, well, netzpolitik :)

If I counted correctly, they leaked documents more than 15 times this year. Without their work we would be far less informed about what's going on.

They're also dependent on donations and need 400k€ until the end of the year, so if you have the means to do so, please send something their way.

So it looks like we mostly won for now: Chatcontrol won't pass this legislative period. However, it's very likely the temporary derogation is going to be extended, which means companies can continue to scan messages voluntarily. Additionally, it's clear this isn't over yet: The proposal will be back. We may have won this battle, but the war on encryption keeps going. Let's keep fighting!

The third cable documents another session of the council (this time not public) on 2023-12-06 which discussed the extension of the temporary derogation.

The Commission noted that this extension is necessary, as after the elections the European Parliament won't realistically be able enter trilogue negoitiations until October 2024. While the reasons vary, member states seem to be willing to accept the extension.
