The storms over central Indiana haven’t had great vertical development so far. We can use the radar beam to detect the height of thunderstorms. Radar is currently detecting the highest tops around 40,000 ft.
Suspect the lack of sunshine today has limited the available potential energy in the atmosphere, which would allow storms to bubble up to higher altitudes.
A Tornado Watch has been issued for portions of Indiana, Illinois, and southeast Missouri. The watch is in effect until 8pm ET/7pm CT.
If you live in one of these counties, have a weather radio and it did not sound off, you need to check it to make sure it is operating correctly.
JUST IN: A 6.5-magnitude #earthquake has been detected off the coast of Panama. 🇵🇦
The quake occurred at 10:50 a.m. ET.
