Thanks to quite a few for commenting on my dilemma - as an #Earth system scientist of 30 years and a lover of books, thought and poetry - of how to live with knowledge in a world of self-interested power structures, in an age of crisis, without becoming a cynic. I'll write some thoughts in upcoming days.

For now, a few pictures from a weekend walk in the landscapes of #Brandenburg, shaped by forces larger than us, the ice ages, and then re-shaped by us humans. Something to work with.

Lots of starter packs on Bluesky which help new users get started and discover accounts to follow.

Do we have a similar curated list of starter packs?

Starter packs are genius, but I was surprised there wasn't a list of them for people to find. So I built it: https://blueskydirectory.com/starter-packs/all The website monitors the packs being shared and adds the ones it finds to the database. Missed your stater pack? Message me and I'll get it added.

For a fuck sakes now there's sunscreen deniers! I'm beginning to think we have reached the peak intelligence of humanity & are now de-evolving!

Voting on Day 1 of early voting has several advantages. Among them, the press runs Page 1 stories about the first day of voting. The bigger the Day 1 turnout, the more press coverage & the stronger “I’ll have what she’s having” message sent to lower-propensity voters.

More Vote On Day 1 - Digby's Hullabaloo

Lots of reasons why it's a good idea I'd like to reinforce Simon Rosenberg's advice on The Importance of Voting on Day 1 of early voting. Digby referenced it on Sunday. You are going to vote anyway. Voting in person on Day 1 of early voting has several advantages. First, once you've voted you will quickly

Truth: "The women and men in state legislatures and at the national level, they should look like us. We shouldn't have 16 million Black women in this country and zero Black female senators at the national level. That is inexcusable." @[email protected] https://www.npr.org/2023/07/26/1189518988/melinda-french-gates-calls-for-womens-parity-in-political-leadership
This may be obvious, but I recently started routinely adding "-youtube" to google searches. This eliminates most pages with links to garbage YouTube-monetized videos that try to attract people looking for basic instructions on how to do simple things. Greatly improves the quality of search results.
