So today I took my new to me electric bike out to do some jobs.

Wonderful.

A five mile up hill ride was like riding on the flat.

There is a pattern to the way it likes to be ridden, for example the engine seems happiest at about 80rpm on the peddles which for me is in muscle memory. And you need to let off the pressure to change gear, but campagnolo was similar. And you can certainly feel the weight in the handling (my racing bike was comfortably sub 10kg including water bottles).

But the ease I could do it and keep my cardiac load under control was a game changer. Even with a pannier of hand tools it was a breeze.

I accept I am fortunate to be able to afford it (I’m hoping less wear in the car will compensate it over time) but if you are pondering, take the advice of people on here, take the advice of a good local independent bike shop and do it.

Das gibt mir ein bisschen Hoffnung.

Das Licht einschalten bei der #Autodominanz am Tage ist keine gute Idee und hätte Einsparpotential. ( #ichbinsoalt das T2 das dem Motorrad vorbehält, da schmal & schnell, aber darum geht es hier nicht.)

Taglicht<=>Fahrradunterstützung
45 Mill. #Stehblech sind täglich statistisch ca. 1h unterwegs. Zur Vereinfachung die Hälfte an Tage und 80% fahren mit Licht. Beleuchtungsleistung mit 75W angenommen macht:
45M0,50,8*75 = 1350MWh/Tag

Das T500 fährt mit 500Wh ca. 50km, T625 mit 625Wh ca. 120km, mittlerer elektrischer Energiebedarf für T2 seine #Fahrräder:
(500+625)Wh/(50+120)km = 6,62Wh/km.
Bei einer jährlichen Strecke von 5000km kann T2 6163 Jahre seine #eBike|s mit dem was #brumbrum an einem Tag für das Licht benötigt fahren.

#mdRzA ohne Unterstützung:
1350MWh entsprechen 4860GJ. Für das #Fahrradfahren braucht der Körper 2100kJ/h.
4860GJ/2100kJ = 2314 #Radfahrer können mit dem was die #Autogewalt da verballert sich ca. 16km (Radfahrerdurchschnittsgeschwindigkeit) fortbewegen!

Der Wirkungsgrad von #Fossil nach Lichtmaschine ist dabei noch nicht berücksichtigt und macht die Zahlen noch gigantischer!

Jeder Tropfen höhlt den Stein, also habt auch bei dieser jährlichen Earth Hour zusätzlich gerne mitgemacht!

The problem with e-bikes and mopeds is that their "top speed" is determined by...the rider's weight.

My spouse's old moped was rated for a certain speed - based on bearing a rider weighing nearly twice as much as she did. It could go twice as fast with her on it.

I think modern ones can almost reach freeway speeds - with an unlicensed rider operating it.
