Idea: a campaign to #rewild the 20% of Irish land least suitable for agriculture. How much would it really cost? How much would we gain? https://www.rte.ie/news/newslens/2022/1201/1339337-how-bringing-back-lost-species-revives-ecosystems/

Because I love you all (even the folks I don't like), I'm going to keep yelling at you about COVID. #Vaccines are essential and you should get every shot you can, but to avoid catching and spreading COVID you must wear a good mask indoors at all times. It's annoying to me too, but that's the deal.

Here's a great summary of recent scientific studies on #COVID: https://jessicawildfire.substack.com/p/you-may-be-early-but-youre-not-wrong

Here are the key points:

+ You can catch Covid multiple times.
+ Reinfections are common, not rare.
+ Breakthrough infections are common.
+ Covid can kill you months after you recover.
+ It can cause brain damage.
+ It can cause blood clots and heart attacks.
+ It doesn’t spare children.
+ Vaccines help, but only some.
+ Masks work.

@SleepyCatten Some people are "worried" because it looks like more and more kids are becoming trans and/or non-binary nowadays. But the simple answer is: it used to be much more repressed. The same thing happened when schools stopped forcing kids to write with their right hand. "Suddenly" more and more kids were lefthanded. But eventually it hit a plateau at 9-10%. It's not that there weren't any lefthanded kids before - they were forced into invisibility.

Leafcutters are #solitarybees that do exactly what it says on the tin.

Females cut pieces from leaves to construct separate pods back in the nest for their young.

They won’t destroy your plants and are a privilege to observe if you’re lucky enough to have them in your garden.

Hurries a timid leaf!’

I garden, with a focus on native plants to help #pollinators, like this cute spring beauty mining bee (Andrena erigeniae).

If you're hearing a lot about the fediverse these days, you should know: Mastodon is not the whole fediverse and the fediverse is not simply a Twitter replacement. The fediverse is an entire ecosystem, built on something called ActivityPub. Learn more: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/11/leaving-twitters-walled-garden
