Some personal news. For real. Deep breath… After 12 years at The Wall Street Journal, I’m leaving. Twelve!

I’m starting my own consumer-tech media company, building a new home with the same mission I've always had: help real people navigate the tech changing their lives.

I can’t wait to start building and hiring! If you want to follow along, sign up at the link below and subscribe on YouTube. No holding small microphones. I promise. Probably. https://www.thisismynexthing.com/

I was curious how the state-by-state battle is going for minimum wages in the USA; here's what I found:
Federal agencies hiding out in a bunker

@atpfm @siracusa My kids sometimes play a game they made up called “Alexa”, where one of them says “Alexa, play [song]”, and the other one has to sing that song.

But occasionally one of them will say “Hey Siri, play [song]”, and the other will say “I’m sorry, I cannot complete that request right now”, and they will laugh and laugh and laugh…

@marcoarment Don’t ask an LLM a factual question that you can’t test!

I went to a talk lately that was mostly about something else, but the speaker came out with:

“If you only remember one thing from this talk, remember this. Everyone in this room who likes helping people, raise your hand.”

Every hand, or nearly every hand, went up.

“If you like asking other people for help, keep your hand up.”

Almost every hand went back down.

“As you can see, people like helping you. When you ask for help, you’re making them feel good, even if you don’t like asking.”

I’ve genuinely forgotten the rest of the presentation but I won’t forget that.

Supposedly Meta was withholding WhatsApp and Instagram for iPad as leverage to get some kind of App Store policy change from Apple. Now that Meta has finally announced both apps, the week before WWDC, explicitly mentioning bonuses like Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil support, it implies that they're getting what they wanted next week.

I wonder if we'll be able to tell what they got? 🤔
