Interesting work happening at the ISO SC 37 Biometrics committee

Getting immersed in a new subject is a great experience. ISO SC 37 wrapped up a week-long series of meetings yesterday in Okayama Japan. Here are some things I learned along the way: SC 37 is smaller than the other ISO committees I’m in - about 60 in-person plus about 20 online this week across 6 work groups. It makes for a tight-knit group and provides lots of time to build relationships.

I've joined the Standards Council of Canada's mirror committee for ISO SC 37 (Biometrics). My focus is on proving liveness and biometric matching for face and consumer-operated sensors. Excited to explore international interest at the upcoming January 2024 SC 37 plenary in Okayama.

NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-63-4 (Draft), Digital Identity Guidelines

These guidelines provide technical requirements for federal agencies implementing digital identity services and are not intended to constrain the development or use of standards outside of this purpose. The guidelines cover identity proofing and authentication of users (such as employees, contractors, or private individuals) interacting with government information systems over networks. They define technical requirements in each of the areas of identity proofing, registration, authenticators, management processes, authentication protocols, federation, and related assertions. This publication will supersede NIST Special Publication 800-63-3.
