As of today there is no more "it's going to happen" - it has now happened, fully and completely. The US government has been taken over by ultranationalist authoritarians intent on ethnic cleansing. That should be the headline of every newspaper and news program. Sound the alarm. Sound all the alarms.

Don't tie your identity to your job. Jobs are temporary, often ending unpredictably. When your identity is your work, your mental health is impacted horribly when your job security is at risk or you get let go.
I've seen multiple folks in cyber suffer from this, some barely surviving the ordeal.
California farm workers will strike for citizenship and basic human rights from Wednesday to Friday of this week.

I don't think anything matters to them. That would mean they have some kind of enduring ethos. The evidence says they are driven purely by situation. Maybe their only constant is self-interest. Note that doesn't mean they ever do what actually is in their own self-interest. But that's what motivates them.
Then again, a friend once advised that trying to understand them is a waste of our precious time. I have come to agree. Just oppose them. That's a better use of it.
