if you understand that for a certain demographic of people, accountability is considered offensive, a lot of things start to make more sense.

#OnThisDay, 5 Feb 1919, Mary Pickford co-founds United Artists in Hollywood with fellow actor Douglas Fairbanks, actor and director Charlie Chaplin and director D W Griffith. Their hope was to circumvent the growing studio system by owning their own creative output.

Pickford was also the first Hollywood movie star to sign a million dollar contract.

How to Survive in Broken Worlds: Jesmyn Ward on Octavia Butler’s Empathy and Optimism

I can’t remember when I first read Octavia Butler’s work. It wasn’t in high school. I never encountered her in my coursework, as my required reading looked nothing like the books …

Anything you create is worth creating, even if the results are below your expectations; it's all practice, and if you're practicing, you're improving. I use this to fight my inner perfectionist and allow myself to draw things that are subjectively 'bad'; it doesn't matter, because it was practice. Time spent working on something improves your skill, your understanding, and any physical components (like strengthening your finger muscles for better pen control). Keep creating.

this goes out to everyone whose accomplishments this year aren't visible. the ones who prioritised rest over the rat race, who rebuilt themselves, ground up, cell by cell.

those who caressed their scars & found the space to heal. the ones who found reasons to smile in a world that makes you scream. those who danced again, sang again, found a moment of grace. if you felt joy in being able to pause, in being able to breathe—

you lived this year, too. and how beautiful it is that you did. 💚

The gas station last-minute buy, for the family gingerbread house competition, had the goods for 12$. Lol.
We didn’t win but we had a laugh.
Wishing everyone peace and to appreciate joy wherever it lives.

One thing I'm seeing a lot more of since #TwitterMigration is Black and Indigenous people being inundated with comments about how we just don't know how masto/fedi works and that's why we're not finding community.
Problem is that it's developed into a trolling tactic by the altright/nazis et al to create a hostile environment for #BlackMastodon and PoC in general, so my recommendation is to block on sight.
White people who Aren't Like That: you've got the chance to not become collateral damage.
