We had a #PowerfulOwl hunting party in our backyard last night and I think our resident long-nosed #bandicoot was dinner. #Predation #WildLife #Sydney
Happy Jesus Festival, #Mastodon!
May your holiday break be as joyous and fulfilling as these two Yoyetta sp. #cicadas doing it in my backyard.

To those new to Mastodon after the most recent #TwitterMigration, remember to use hashtags liberally. Unlike Twitter, Mastodon relies on hashtags to search posts - you canโ€™t use key words or sentences. Also, remember to capitalise the first letter of each word in a hashtag! If you donโ€™t, screen readers often canโ€™t interpret them as separate words and wonโ€™t read them as intended. #accessibility
Hello #EcoEvo! For those that don't know me from the bird site: I'm in the write-up stage of my #PhD on variation in #WarningSignals in #TigerMoths, but recently scored a sweet new job as a #ResearchOfficer working on #BeeGutMicrobiomes and #Probiotics. I met the campus bees today- it was a total buzz ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ
The #FriendsofJohn movement over on the bird site is bloody hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm still keeping watch over there, because I want to watch it implode into the flaming satellite that that man-baby is so clearly creating..

After the Elon #Mastodon ban, all of us still with a Twitter account should - without breaking the new rules - ensure that #FriendsofJohn ๐Ÿ˜ is trending tonight.

In 1912, Meyrick wrote a piece for The Entomologist's Monthly Magazine under the title "On Some Impossible Specific Names in Micro-Lepidoptera"

https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/8960506

It seems he really disliked the trend to assign meaningless series of letters as names for species.

I'm sure the modern ICZN code would not allow him to do this, but he proceeded to rename dozens of species to which Keerfott had given epithets like bobana, cocana, dodana, fofana, gogana, etc. - you get the idea. (2/2)

How much do you know about the fascinating lives of invertebrates? We tend to overlook them, but these tiny ecosystem regulators are crucial to so much of our lives.
