Shy extrovert with strong opinions mixed with a healthy dose of skepticism and curiosity. I read more than I write. I enjoy the eureka! moments and occasional stepping in someone else's shoes. I have chosen to remain anonymous so that I can be frank in my opinions, likes, and followings. I also have a profile on mastodon.uno to be able to participate in the Italian community. I don't accept follower requests because it makes me feel very self-conscious -- I am working on getting over it.
@michael_w_busch @mdm @mekkaokereke she did choose some lesser known empires, but her story about colonial assimilation and identity could have been about any of the better known empires (Pax Romana and British Empire come to mind), the beauty of fiction is to help you see yourself by creating the illusion of distance
@mekkaokereke Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh - I edited this to remove a spoiler, let's just say it's got a few surprises and that it's an interesting take on militarism and POVs
@mekkaokereke A Memory Called Empire is an award winning reflection on colonialism and cultural identity, besides being a well written and entertaining sci-fi mystery. The second book in the duology is equally good.
@golgaloth Arkady Martine, A Memory Called Empire and its sequel
Here's Colbert's interview with Talarico, not on the Carr-controlled, Trump-tainted airwaves but in the free air of the internet. As I post this, 500k have watched. Let's make sure more people see it on YouTube than TV. Call that the Carr Effect.

@heidilifeldman "With a judicial finger in the constitutional dike" is memorable! And so true! So glad to see an opinion that is not afraid of what an appeal court might do and speaks with conviction, at this point we need both the ones that will survive appeals and the ones that will spur action and discussion, like this one.
@jewishreader for a lesser known high fantasy single book, The Priory of the Orange Tree. For a take on Nero Wolfe in a well developed original fantasy setting, The Tainted Cup. They are both quite different than Strange and Norrell though.
@jewishreader Piranesi, by the same author as Strange and Norrell is haunting, poetic, weird, and interesting.
@cheeaun Thank you for Phanpy, it is awesome and I enjoy it every day ever since I discovered it! It's been my daily portal into Mastodon since January 2023.
