Yes, but what female scifi (NOT fantasy) authors would you recommend?

I'd say Ryka Aoki Light from Uncommon Stars, The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley, and Margaret Killjoy's The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion.

@golgaloth You probably already know Nnedi Okorafor, but if you don't, then her. The "Binti" trilogy is genius.
@morganth Love me some Nnedi. Just finished Death of the Author.
@golgaloth I haven't read that one yet! Need to check it out.

Martha Wells. Murderbot is a joy.

Andre Norton's SF works form the foundation of a lot of modern SF.

Sharon Lee (who mostly writes with her now late husband, Steven Miller) and the Liaden universe is legendary.

@rdm Love me some Murderbot. I read a lot of Andre in my youth. Sharon Lee is a name I've heard. I'll definitely check her stuff out. Thanks.

@golgaloth
Agent of Change is a good place to start, and has one of the all time great first lines:

CHAPTER ONE: In which the man who was not Terrance O’Grady had come quietly.

@golgaloth Mary Robinette Kowal's "Lady Astronaut" series is a fun alt-history, like "For All Mankind".

I'm a huge and enduring fan of Lois McMaster Bujold's SF: she has created a fun world filled with fascinating people.

C. J. Cherryh is probably my favorite hard SF author of all time, and one of the few authors who I think can combine deftly "highly personal" and "high concept" writing.

N. K. Jemisin's "Broken Earth" trilogy is brilliant, but pretty dark. I love all her stuff, though.

@golgaloth

Off the top of my head?

Lisa Cohen - Derelict
Si Clarke - Left Hand of Dog
Krista D. Ball - Collaborator Series
A K Duboff - Starship of the Ancients

@golgaloth Arkady Martine, A Memory Called Empire and its sequel
@golgaloth Ursula LeGion, CJ Cherryh, N. K. Jemisin, Cherie Priest.

@golgaloth

My recent fave is Becky Chambers.

@golgaloth Yume Kitasei, Rebecca Roanhorse, Hana Lee, Andrea Stewart, Charlie Jane Anders, NK Jemisin
