Grateful to be living on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

Around the city, I've been finding supportive, trans-inclusive stickers placed on swaths of public items - doors, poles, signs, bulletin boards, etc.

It's raining, #ottawa people!! It's been a miserable (IMO) week of record highs (35C with the humidex yesterday). I'm going to try filling two rain barrels this year. Maybe start saving some shower water.
#climatecrisis #canada In more ways than one, it feels like the end of the world as we know it.

If you're currently on a massive server like mastodon.social, you might want to consider moving your account to a smaller server.

You can keep your followers when you change servers, here's how to do it: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/107939441820299376

You can find reliable servers at https://joinmastodon.org/communities (all the servers listed there agree to the covenant at https://joinmastodon.org/covenant). Try to pick one with fewer people.

There are lots of good things about smaller servers:

-Better moderation, because there are more staff per member.

-Smaller servers tend to have more personality, with a village feel.

-The local timeline on smaller servers is much more readable.

-Smaller servers protect the Fediverse as a whole from being taken over, because lots of smaller servers are harder to buy than a few big servers.

-It's easier to make a difference on smaller servers. It's easier to discuss things with the admin and other members.

UPDATE: If you want to transfer your account to another server, here's how to do it: ➡️ https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server This guide is a bit longer than other guides as it includes moving your followers, follows and blocks/mutes/bookmarks. (By the way, sorry for people seeing notification of this post edit. I had to edit as the original contents were somewhat out of date. The convenient thing about fascists is that they'll always make sure you know who they are.

@mopedad I hear this. I feel very pleased with myself when I do it, but it is much easier when I'm on my pc. I'll sometimes avoid putting up a photo if I haven't the time to caption the image.
As well, I've realized how crap I am at descriptions.
I think I've missed captioning a few. We're just doing the best we can, right?

@Aman9das
Yes, you can play it on linux.

I'm in my fifties (it happens very quickly... prepare yourself), and aside from England, I've as yet only traveled Canada and the States. I had opportunities to travel, but didn't take them, and I have some regrets. We'll be ready to travel again post-Covid, but being exposed to other cultures when you're young is invaluable, IMO.

@Aman9das Amen re: reading and video games, and DEFINITELY travel while you're young!
It's old and very cheesy, but have you ever played Dink Smallwood? It's free and open-source with lots of D-Mods.

I identified six different bird sounds including cardinals, finches, a robin, crows/starlings/blackbirds (I get them mixed up), and the scream of a pigeon.
I heard the sound of cars passing in the next street, the occasional tintinnabulation of the wind chimes, and was very aware of my body.

#coffee meditation challenge from Ian: https://mastodon.online/@shojiwax

I got up at 6:30, made a mug of coffee, and took it to the backyard. I sat cross-legged on the deck of the gazebo wrapped in a shawl, drank my coffee, and listened.
