A cross-party group of lawmakers in the European Parliament have issued a joint call to establish an ambitious “European Blue Deal” to protect water resources from climate stress and promote ocean energies.
It would complement the objectives of the European Green Deal through the sustainable management of water supplies.
“Water is a fundamental resource that sustains life on earth, our ecosystems and economy”.

Local needs for environmental protection when addressing and managing storm water overflows and urban run off discharges require flexibility.
The #UWWTD vote in tomorrow's EP is crucial.
Compensation: the reverse burden of proof stated in article 26 will likely result in legal procedures, because the causal link between the damage and violation should be established, and not just presumed.
Thus, we call for the adoption of amendment 254.

The ambition of #EPR and the implementation of the polluter pays principle has been watered down by including a co-financing model for the costs of quaternary treatment for the removal of #micropollutants.
Their affordability must be ensured. Therefore, we encourage the adoption of amendment 264.

#Energy #neutrality: the #EP Report's goals still collide with the reality of the sector and will be extremely challenging to achieve, given that in too many cases, even if maximising the energy that can be generated through #biogas from sludge, the installation of photovoltaic panels covering every UWWTP available surface or wind turbines, the energy would cover 50-60% of the energy demand.

If this Regulation truly wants to be future-proof, it should aim to at least reach the levels set out in the Ecolabel criteria that have proved feasible and successful in the market.
EurEau supports the Commission’s approach to promoting #environmental protection coupled with access to #medicines.
While the proposal offers long-overdue advances in controlling #pollution from #pharmaceuticals at the source, it must go further in curbing excessive use of over-the-counter medicines, take into account risks posed by metabolites and transformation products, and provide further transparency for environmental risk assessments.
