I made the Eggplant and Tomato Pie from the New York Times #Cooking app. I used a homemade whole wheat pizza crust. Tasty, like a deep dish eggplant pizza, but it kind of fell apart in the middle. Next time I'll make it crustless. #Food #Recipes

So many conservative complaints boil down to "the people we oppress are treated like heroes, but we, the people who oppress them, are never treated like heroes, wah."

Years ago, I attended a meeting about the future of democracy at Harlan Crow’s “house” (which was staged as a museum). I left deeply shaken by the Nazi memorabilia on display. Apparently I wasn’t alone. https://www.washingtonian.com/2023/04/07/clarence-thomass-billionaire-benefactor-collects-hitler-artifacts/

Indeed Crow’s house had statues of fallen dictators. I was told that these items were war trophies to commemorate how the “good guys” won. But no museum curator I know would glorify such artifacts that way. Hitler’s painting was signed, just hanging on the wall as art.

Harlan Crow also has a garden full of dictator statues.

Forget the governor. Politicians only care about holding on to power. This should be an open letter to her friends, family and neighbors in Tennessee who continue to vote for opponents of gun control. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/29/opinion/nashville-shooting-governor-response.html?campaign_id=0&emc=edit_cr_20230330&instance_id=0&nl=comments-notifications&regi_id=3839164&segment_id=0&user_id=5bb8efc4c5d883f6479b7787f2318d31#commentsContainer&permid=124089385:124096796
Opinion | An Open Letter to Governor Lee on the Slaughter of Our Children

You may be the only one in this entire state who could do something to protect our children. You could do it if you wanted to.

At the end of the day, the sheer number of firearms floating around the country likely dooms significant restrictions on access. And that's without considering the partisan split. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/28/guns-united-states-shootings/
The irreducible problem for gun-control activists: The number of guns

There are a literally uncountable number of guns in the U.S., the fundamental, unaddressable problem with gun violence.

The Washington Post
If your family and friends vote for politicians who oppose gun control, talk to them. Explain to them if they want to prevent the murder of children, to keep children safe in school, they must vote for politicians who support common-sense gun control.

This was more interesting than I'd expected.

Alone and Exploited, Migrant Children Work Brutal Jobs Across the U.S.

Arriving in record numbers, they’re ending up in dangerous jobs that violate child labor laws — including in factories that make products for well-known brands like Cheetos and Fruit of the Loom.
