Why were Americans shocked when #Trump tweeted that we should terminate “all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution"? Outlandish and dangerous as that may be, we found that roughly one third of Americans agreed with that sentiment--that it's alright to get around the law--before he won in 2016. We compared these anti-democratic views with survey data from the 1950s and found considerable stability on several fronts.

Contemporary Views of Liberal Democracy and the 2016 Presidential Election - Volume 54 Issue 1
Cambridge CoreYet another example of a
#Florida public university president cowtowing to a politician who can't handle academic freedom. The irony of wanting to limit free speech is particularly rich coming from a child of Cuban exiles.

Here's a fascinating 2013 Boston Review symposium on the politics of blame. The lead essay is by the mother of
#SamBankmanFried, Stanford Law Prof Barbara Fried, who argues against "blame mongering," suggesting instead that "the next time something goes terribly wrong, suppose that instead of immediately asking who is to blame, we were to ask: How can we fix this problem."

A Florida committee once hunted for gay people in its universities. Sixty years later, the effects linger.
