Il Fatto Quotidiano: “L’Italia difende Israele dai tentativi dell’Ue di imporre sanzioni”: il ministro di Netanyahu soddisfatto della linea del governo Meloni

“L’Italia, nonostante tutte le difficoltà, sta difendendo Israele dai tentativi di imporgli sanzioni in seno all’Ue“. Ne è convinto il ministro degli Esteri del governo Netanyahu Gideon Saar che ha parlato così in un’intervista televisiva su Canale 14, molto vicino – per non dire house organ informale – della destra israeliana. “Dobbiamo capire questo – risponde all’anchorman che gli pone una domanda sull’Italia – L’Italia, nonostante tutte le difficoltà, sta difendendo Israele dai tentativi di imporgli sanzioni in seno all’Ue. E per questo motivo, l’opposizione in Italia sta prendendo di mira il governo, dicendo: state collaborando con Israele, e quindi ne siete responsabili. E ogni caso come questo è un disastro per noi. Noi dobbiamo capire che anche se vogliamo mantenere alleati e amici, dobbiamo anche ascoltarli. Ma non abbiamo pagato alcun prezzo, abbiamo fatto ciò che dovevamo raggiungere”. Il ministro non ha chiarito in cosa Israele abbia “ascoltato” i suoi alleati finora.
Saar nell’intervista ha fatto riferimento in particolare ai Paesi che hanno governi di destra, come l’Italia appunto. “Macron ha cercato di avvicinare il mondo intero al riconoscimento di uno Stato palestinese – dice ancora -. In Germania, in Italia, in Corea del Sud, in Giappone, a Singapore, in Nuova Zelanda non hanno appoggiato questa iniziativa. Noi abbiamo ottenuto dei successi”.
Come si ricorderà – dopo la carneficina di Israele in Libano – una ventina di giorni fa il governo Meloni ha sospeso il rinnovo automatico dell’accordo di difesa con Israele. Non è mai stato ben chiarito cosa significa “sospensione del rinnovo“. Più concreto e trasparente invece il no dell’Italia nell’ultima riunione dei ministri degli Esteri dell’Ue: insieme alla Germania si è opposta alle richieste di Paesi come Spagna, Irlanda e Slovenia di sospendere l’accordo commerciale tra Unione Europea e Israele.

Italy, despite all the difficulties, is defending Israel from attempts to impose sanctions within the EU. Gideon Saar, the Foreign Minister of the Netanyahu government, is convinced of this, stating it in a television interview on Channel 14, very close – to say the least, an informal and unofficial mouthpiece – of the Israeli right. “We need to understand this – he responds to the anchorman who poses a question to him about Italy – Italy, despite all the difficulties, is defending Israel from attempts to impose sanctions within the EU. And for this reason, the opposition in Italy is targeting the government, saying: you are collaborating with Israel, and therefore you are responsible. And every case like this is a disaster for us. We must understand that even if we want to maintain allies and friends, we must also listen to them. But we have not paid any price, we have done what we had to achieve.” The Minister did not clarify what Israel had “listened” to its allies so far.

Saar made particular reference in the interview to countries with right-wing governments, such as Italy itself. “Macron has tried to bring the whole world closer to recognizing a Palestinian state – he says further -. In Germany, in Italy, in South Korea, in Japan, in Singapore, in New Zealand, they have not supported this initiative. We have achieved successes.”

As you will recall – following the massacre in Lebanon by Israel – two weeks ago, the Meloni government suspended the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel. It has never been clearly defined what “suspension of renewal” means. More concrete and transparent, however, was Italy’s rejection in the last meeting of EU Foreign Ministers: together with Germany, it opposed the requests from countries such as Spain, Ireland and Slovenia to suspend the trade agreement between the European Union and Israel.
