I was thinking today about why mastodon feels like such a breath of fresh air, and I realized it’s that the system isn’t actively hostile to sharing things in the “wrong” way. On Reddit some posts are strongly prioritized over others, so, for example, most people post images about their YouTube videos then include the link in a comment, bc the algo prefers pics. On twitter using too many tags = weaker reach etc. this is intentional to get you to pay for boost/ads. Fedi treats it all the same!
