This is my entry into my first ever painting competition after 20+ years of paining miniatures. The theme is “mayday” so I riffed off the theme word to create this little diorama titled “May Day in the Underhive.” I have until Sunday to submit it and I’m looking for feedback mostly on the photography angles and wondering how well the scene’s narrative reads visually and in the alt text.

Kroot mercenary for my Cold Traders crew. Really happy with how this color scheme turned out. One day I’ll do a full Kroot army in this scheme I think.

Finished the weekend painting project. The “techmighty” converted Ambot for a squat gang. Techmite in front for scale (and as an example of where that kitbashed head came from.)

Every now and then (often, actually) I'm faced with choices, and this model is a clear example. I had to decide whether to THROW AWAY everything (throw it away, not clean it) or try to salvage what I could. I tried to let common sense prevail and swallow my pride. I'm a big fan of painting unassembled models, because that way you can paint every area of the model beautifully, but this damned kit didn't forgive me a single thing. Despite taking countless precautions during assembly to make all the parts fit together properly, in the end, problems arose that required sacrificing the original throttle levers (since, given the presence of the driver's hands, I had welded them to the body, so the holes in the hull were filled with two "heat sinks"), and I searched among the bits for two pieces that best represented the new levers (they are decidedly large and ungainly...). I'm not happy: the bike was a dream, the rider has some imperfections, but we could have overlooked them... Then came the damage. It's a matter of perspective: many will be happy to see this piece of junk on my page (well, it's fair to give them satisfaction sometimes), while others might appreciate the rescue... Let's hope we don't have any problems with the next job.
