Like we usually do on #SpecScriptShoutOut day, we start by boosting all of the shout outs we've seen since the last celebration day. And since this is the first time we're doing this on Mastodon, and a lot of shout outs are still on Twitter, we'll share the screenshots of the tweets, and if we know the writer is on Mastodon, we'll tag them on here. Like this shout out for @Daynadirects for her script #TheSleepover.

This is my wheelhouse! I could do it this week.

The first science fiction novel by a Black woman is likely Pauline Hopkins' "Of One Blood" (1902-1903). It's a pulpy colonial romance, first serialized in "Colored American Magazine."

It also bears some surprising similarities with the conceit of "Black Panther" : a hidden African city-state; African American visitors with a claim to its throne... (The full text of the novel can be founnd on Project Gutenberg)

The Pioneering Black Sci-Fi Writer Behind the Original Wakanda - Ms. Magazine

Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins invented the setting that eventually became Wakanda in her science fiction, but her name isn't widely known.

Ms. Magazine

Writer of character-driven TV dramas centered on women forging new identities. Great at remembering full arcs while tracking small details. I've taught empathy to doctors so know how to "yes, and," & I'll be your show’s biggest cheerleader. Ready to staff with multiple samples available.

@RachelSL I had never had them before I moved to Atlanta. How are they SO DELICIOUS?
@phxrising18 also originally from the Midwest (STL) and I do not miss the cold!
