Like we usually do on #SpecScriptShoutOut day, we start by boosting all of the shout outs we've seen since the last celebration day. And since this is the first time we're doing this on Mastodon, and a lot of shout outs are still on Twitter, we'll share the screenshots of the tweets, and if we know the writer is on Mastodon, we'll tag them on here. Like this shout out for @Daynadirects for her script #TheSleepover.

The first science fiction novel by a Black woman is likely Pauline Hopkins' "Of One Blood" (1902-1903). It's a pulpy colonial romance, first serialized in "Colored American Magazine."

It also bears some surprising similarities with the conceit of "Black Panther" : a hidden African city-state; African American visitors with a claim to its throne... (The full text of the novel can be founnd on Project Gutenberg)

Writer of character-driven TV dramas centered on women forging new identities. Great at remembering full arcs while tracking small details. I've taught empathy to doctors so know how to "yes, and," & I'll be your show’s biggest cheerleader. Ready to staff with multiple samples available.

Very happy to be here and support this new place. Pass it on...

As we build towards The Grey List
in February, I'm looking for any industry pros/orgs. interested in contributing their time to help fight ageism.

Can you...
- Read/give notes to emerging +40 writers?
- Provide vouchers for contest entries?
- Speak on Zoom abt working as an older writer?

Have some other, better idea?

Let's talk!

The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time. - Mary Oliver

I could use some inspiration! What are you working on? What's good in your world?

Simply the absolute best advice. The next time someone asks me how they can become a better writer – and a better person! – I'm going to show them this letter.

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

Kurt Vonnegut was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.
