Ok, so I have decided to merge my two Dave accounts. I've got confused a couple of times about which I'm using but more importantly the mastodon.online server is really, really struggling at the moment with very long delays.
The merge process should be reasonably straight forward and I will end up with @[email protected] as the new home. Followers should be moved & merged automagically.
@swarming I'm running out of words to describe my anger as these entitled, privileged, incompetent, corrupt, bullying, rich people spread hate, lies and suffering for so many people.
I am frequently ashamed to be British as they physically destroy vulnerable people while lying about them.
We are losing lives in #Wythenshawe. My #Trans friends are living in terror. My should be friends and neighbours seeking a new life in this country are being told they are illegal humans - Aarrghhh!

I keep seeing people say Mastodon is nothing like Twitter. And they’re right.

Mastodon is an echo of the old internet, it’s decentralised, chaotic. What you get depends on your sysadmin. You can’t search, everything has to be shared to you by a human. Networks split apart and rejoin. What you see is your unique connection to it.

Is this good? Maybe. But for me that’s the internet I grew up with. No algorithms, no targeted adverts, just human interaction, and it was glorious.

Stuff is arriving even after being delayed. Many servers are being massively upgraded. Version 4 of #Mastodon has significant performance benefits and is close to release.
https://joinmastodon.org/servers is showing a monthly growth of 113% in active users and 25% growth in servers. Every day both numbers are increasing.
The architecture appears to be allow for easier scaling than most systems and massive lessons are being learned and shared.
This is worth being part of, this is reclaiming social media!
Servers

Find where to sign up for the decentralized social network Mastodon.

Clearly #Mastodon is in the midst of a huge scaling challenge with so many new people.
This is a key proving ground for the distributed model. Will enough new people step up as server admins? How quickly will existing server admins be able to upgrade their servers? Will enough people be able to financially support their server admins?
So far the signs are hopeful. Servers are building huge queues of tasks to process and distribute posts but the architecture seems to be coping.
@swarming and Sunak has not improved anything with u-turns and so many terrible cabinet appointments.

“I specifically disagree with his stance on free speech, because I think that it depends on your interpretation of what free speech means. If you allow the most intolerant voices to be as loud as they want to, you’re going to shut down voices of different opinions as well. So allowing free speech by just allowing all speech is not actually leading to free speech, it just leads to a cesspit of hate.”

Great interview with the founder of Mastodon.

@realfiremonkey and so are those who appoint and defend him and other members of the cabinet with appalling track records.
One of the problems besides our comfort was that the oil had thickened so much in Jane's sewing machine that it wouldn't run.

One of my drawings for Cycling UK, a brilliant cycle campaigning organisation here in the UK.
