@Killertomato @GossiTheDog when reading about privacy violation enforcement actions by the FTC there were a lot that would have been resolved by this. Laptops full of patient data stolen from a car, etc.
Honestly it probably mitigates most crimes where an encrypted hard drive avoids the risk. Not all. And not all the non-crime related reasons people care about privacy
@SwiftOnSecurity I manage all public (student) printing at a university. We recently retired some printers that had over a million pages printed on them (between 2012 and 2019)
Current highest usage is at 300k pages with 100k scans... That's more scanning than I expected.
Amusingly there's massive difference of usage in printers side by side with the one closer to the approach (first one) generally getting 2 times more usage.... I've been meaning to swap them around occasionally but doing that properly would involve renaming and configuring them so their names match their locations....
Enterprise printers (the cheapest basic BW printer we use is 2k) with regular maintenance can last... About forever. The million page printers we replaced was still working find... But printed half as fast as newer ones and wasn't compatible with some authentication upgrades we wanted.
