Coin of Note is a personal project to share numismatic information and images of coins and exonumia I enjoy. I try to include interesting information and I hope you enjoy it also!

Participant in #SaturdayNightCoinShow, #MondayMedallion, #TokenTuesday

Please note, I endeavour to identify / describe the pieces I post about in the toot itself. So, for most, I haven't put alt text, just because it would duplicate the same information. If you would like more detail, please let me know!

A wreathed skull stares out from this silver medal for Josias Krijger who died 9 September 1675. Krijger was a lieutenant under Rear Admiral Jan Van Brakel. Behind the skull a pair of scythes and also two putti (one extinguishes a torch and the other blows bubbles - a reminder of the fragility of life). A winged hourglass perches above the skull representing the passage of time (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam) #MementoMori #Netherlands #17thcentury #history #histodons #mourning

Where does gold come from?

The beginnings of gold are nearly as old as time itself. Find out more about where gold comes from in the article from The Perth Mint.

Random #SaturdayNightCoinShow question: Why are American Silver Eagles $80 USD direct from the mint? https://catalog.usmint.gov/american-eagle-silver-one-ounce-proof-coin-subscription-MN.html The spot price of silver is around $22 which is nearly a quarter of that.

And what do you get for a subscription? Looks like one single 1oz bullion coin a year?

Full moon.... The cat accidentally got left in the study with the door shut for a couple of hours last night. She sent a tray of coins off the desk and across the floor. They had been all neatly sorted, ready to file. I definitely should have done that awhile ago...
To make up for the last, hard-to-decipher design. Here is a nice Constantine Follis featuring a well struck, late Roman camp gate. Struck during the ~320s at Cyzicus mint, in modern-day Turkey #SaturdayNightCoinShow
Here's one I picked up just because of the neat shape, even though neither the dealer, nor I knew what it was aside from Indo-Greek. Thanks to David in the Ancient & Medieval coins group on Facebook I have more info. "These are believed to be a local coinage of Taxila in Punjab (northern Pakistan), issued during a period of independence between the fall of the Mauryan empire and the conquest of the region by the Indo-Greeks. https://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=257665 " #SaturdayNightCoinShow

So I've gone with this for now - We had a few amazon boxes lying around, which when opened and cut into "strips" the short edges work fairly well folded in half (for extra thickness). I trimmed the longer edges and got four out of a box. Next up, I'm going to print a sheet of info about the coins to go on either side of these.
This is definitely coin related. The boss got some new fish for our aquarium - a couple of "Silver dollars" (See, I told you it was coin related!) - I definitely approve of the numismatically named fish - even though they will eat the smaller fish (and they don't like being photographed). Pretty sure this still counts for #SaturdayNightCoinShow
