Happy American Thanksgiving!πŸ¦ƒπŸ‚

Show you care about the people you love by slowing down and getting to & from your destinations safely.

@bikestuffpdx It is a dramatic incident to have captured. The thing I keep thinking about is the dozens of times there are hit & runs in PDX DAILY.

And we still are designing our streets to allow these crashes to happen. No other city service has this record. Imagine if we enjoyed the pleasure of indoor electricity in our homes knowing that hundreds of us would get a slight zap, 20 would be seriously injured, and one or more of us in Portland would die every week. Complete madness.

The #Toyota4Runner that caused today's awful Boston Apple Store #CarCrash weighs 4800 pounds and goes 0>60 in 7.6 seconds.

We in the USA need to hold our agencies, especially #NHTSA and #USDOT chief #PeteButtigieg to account for continuing to make these "cars" street legal.

Soon available with #EV subsidies too! #TrafficViolence

Two people have died since this banner was printed on Friday. It memorializes the 189 people who have died on our streets since the city committed to Vision Zero, but it should now read 191

Man Killed in Hit and Run Collision on Aurora - SPD Blotter

SPD Traffic Collision detectives are investigating after a man was killed in a suspected hit and run collision on Aurora Avenue. Around 3:15 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a pedestrian down in the road in the 1600 block of Aurora Avenue North. At the scene, police found a 21-year-old man with significant […]

BikeLoud PDX is usually nimble but it seems they are slow to Federate.

Please give @bikeloudpdx a follow and maybe they'll put up their bio and a photo!

@footsteps It is very hard to collect information about anything other than KSI (Killed + Seriously Injured) in transpo agency & public health reports. Whole #VisionZero conferences have convened on this topic. I hope others jump in @ data collection, especially with good non-US examples.

What I am feeling is the anxiety Dutch felt as they launched #StopDeKindermoord movement.

Yes, we need more data. We also need people to wake up, rise up & reclaim their public space.

@joshkornbluth @bikestuffpdx Thanks for saying that. This is, as a elder, what I feel most strongly about car culture.

We have given up our happiness in our public spaces. We can't relax and use our own spaces -- even if we drive cars -- because we've built a hostile environment and inappropriate vehicles to get around in it.

@footsteps @NilaJones Thank you for your work to log "near-misses", a nearly impossible task!

Please remember that not everyone feels comfortable making a police report after traffic violence -- children, too busy to wait to report, language issues, disorientation, problems with police in general.

Reporting to the police is a time-consuming public service and a privilege not everyone has. Cities need to adjust their traffic violence statistics with this bias in mind.

@ryanthornton I am sad you were hit by someone driving while you were biking.

Do you think in your town if someone had fired a gun and done similar damage that police would have called back and issued a report?

@NilaJones I'm so sad you have been injured by traffic violence and that your injuries are permanent.

Legit question, do you think most people report being injured by a person firing a gun at them? Agree that police don't seem to be able to stem that carnage either. But how are we supposed to wrap our heads -- and our public policy -- around traffic violence when we don't see it for what it is?
