A year ago, I chaired a
London Assembly
Health Committee scrutiny on #drugharm reduction. Details about the Mayor's much trailed #drug commission were already overdue. If you want some harm reduction ideas to feed back when he opens the consultation, then have a look at our report: https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/london-assembly-publications/reducing-drug-deaths-london
Reducing drug deaths in London

Drug-related deaths have been rising for the past eight years.

At last, the Mayor of London has responded to my Q and published a website with details of the expert reference group working on his #drug commission.
And he "will soon be launching an online portal through which you will be able to submit your views". ⏱️

The London Drugs Commission

In May 2022, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the creation of the London Drugs Commission (LDC). Made up of independent experts, the Commission will consider the evidence on the impact of cannabis on Londoners' lives and communities and present its conclusions about the effectiveness of UK drugs laws on reducing any harmful impacts associated with cannabis.

To see Labour bemoan "immigration dependency" is dismal.

For generations, many young people's best chance of seeing other countries was when they were rounded up, marched across the fields of Europe and made to slaughter one another.

Freedom of movement gave people the chance to decide for themselves where to live, work, learn, make a life.

It's one of the most astonishing & liberating political achievements of the last hundred years.

To tear up this legacy is shameful.

Last week the London Assembly voted to update the Mayor's #Transport strategy to enable him to decide to take his #cleanair zone London wide. The Greens voted against two amendments one to stop the clean air zone, the other to introduce delay. Massive thanks to the school children and campaigners especially Rosamund Kissi Debrah who came along to watch the debate and urge us all to update the transport strategy and enable the bigger clean air zone.

Intro post - I'm an elected Green on the London Assembly and Islington Council.

Interests:

#toilet availability and accessibility,

treatment of families bereaved through road traffic #collisions,

harm reduction approach to #drugs,

access to healthcare for #trans and non-binary people,

preventing knife violence and #murder

exposing racism, misogyny and disproportionality in #policing,

freedom to #protest,

disgrace of #mouldy homes

and single use plastics flushed inappropriately.

Three hours later and I seem to have set up a mastodon account on the .green server.
