Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.
It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

Kyle RankinFor some people, attention is a drug (and online, it can be profitable too). If an attention addict can't get positive attention they'll settle for negative attention. As they say, "There's no such thing as bad publicity."
Maybe I'm just a contrarian, but while everyone else stares angrily at the loud motorcycle driving down the street blaring horrible music, my instinct is to ignore them and starve them of the negative attention they are demanding.

KHAYRI R.R. WOULFE@tomw The dominant use of "algorithm" nowadays refer to some obscure, arcane, somewhat magical use of mathematics and programming to *manipulate* the masses. At least that's how the media (ab)use the term algorithm. But the term algorithm almost never occurs in parlance among developers during backend, frontend or fullstack development. I think people are actually referring to UX/UI manipulation when they use that term. Algorithm seems to be the 21st century version of "black magic".
