The Centre for Population Change (CPC) investigates how and why our population is changing and what this means for people, communities and governments. CPC is a collaboration between the Universities of Southampton, St. Andrews, and Stirling, it is an umbrella organisation bringing together multiple projects investigating population change. These projects are financed through a variety of funders, primarily the Economic and Social Research Council.

In comments on the audience poll, Ann raised the importance of several conditions being important at the same time for people to be able to achieve their #fertility intentions - crucially, that free and high-quality childcare and #genderequity are necessary. Find out more in CPC-CG Policy Briefing 73, revealing the types of #childcare UK #families are using and the cost. The findings show differences between families depending on socioeconomic situation: https://www.cpc.ac.uk/res/docs/PB73_Who_uses_childcare_in_the_UK_and_how_much_does_it_cost.pdf

Professor Ann Berrington discusses how concerns about the future and subjective worries are important in predicting future #fertility - our CPC-CG Policy Briefing 'Intending to remain #childless: Are concerns about #climatechange and #overpopulation the cause?' explores findings from the UK #Survey of the #Generations & #Gender Programme: https://www.cpc.ac.uk/res/docs/PB72_Intending_to__remain_childless_are_concerns_about_climate_change_and_overpopulation_the_cause.pdf

🗨️ Concluding her reflections, CPC-CG member Professor Ann Berrington says: "Success of policies should be based not on whether #fertility increases, but whether individuals are given #reproductive freedom and the ability to achieve their fertility intentions."

📋 Come along this Thursday 26 March to our next #CPCCGWebinar with Joseph Harrison from the University of #Salford.

Joseph will discuss a key finding in #migrant #healthresearch: although foreign‑born #populations often live longer, they may spend more of those extra years in poorer health. Using #Swedish #administrativedata, Joseph offers a clearer picture by relying on objective #patientrecords rather than self‑reported #health.
