I visited the "Getting Started with the Twitter API" page https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api/getting-started/about-twitter-api and as I understand it there is NO free access to reading tweets anymore.
This explains why there are no new tweets visible in #AndStatus anymore, see the discussion https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/579
Getting Started with the Twitter API

The Twitter API can be used to programmatically retrieve and analyze data, as well as engage with the conversation on Twitter. Get started here.

Trying out #AndStatus as a mobile client. Feels messy compared to #Tusky but it supports more protocols, specifically #ActivityPub C2S or client to server protocol.

I was surprised to find after reading the ActivityPub spec that most servers don't seem to implement the C2S protocol, and instead forge their own path. It makes sense in retrospect.

Since I'm building my own toy federated server/thick client, AndStatus means I have a free mobile client while I experiment, which is really radical.

@ryancoordinator there is a regression because of a new database format, which leads to the search finding "less" things

I searched 'mastodon' in f-droid and saw AndStatus

I updated fdroid, and searched again and was given fewer results.

What's up with that?

Starting #ActivityPub #C2S testing for #Friendica.
I'm using @[email protected] test account there and @heluecht is doing work at the Friendica server side

Friendica with C2S - AndStatus is really greedy and confusing Β· Issue #573 Β· andstatus/andstatus

I'm currently experimenting with C2S on Friendica. This implementation is so new, that there isn't even a PR for it. it is currently only running on my develop machine pirati.ca. I'm cu...

@jeffgreco @atomicpoet No, but any Mastodon app will only be able to use an account on a server that implemented the Mastodon API.

(unless it's a multi-protocol client that support Mastodon as one of its servers, like @AndStatus )
@lispi314 I meant mostly decisions made by a client app based on its own load, not on information from a concrete server. E g. app may behave differently if it has one or if it has 20 accounts configured to be synced periodically. The app cannot afford preloading as much information for 20 accounts as you can for one.
@scott Exactly for the cases when you want to check "how this looks at the sourse" #AndStatus app has "Open in Browser" context menu item that links to the original URL of the note.
One thing that is often overlooked is simply linking to the original content in addition to attempting to render it locally. That way, there are two views available: the view of whatever app you are using, and the view of the app where the content originated from.

For example, if a portfolio is being shared over ActivityPub, different platforms might render it differently. Having a prominent link back to the portfolio would allow people to see it as it is intended.

Another example is that some platforms strip out most formatting. Mastodon is one of those platforms. But if you go to the original post on the sending platform, you will see rich formatting.

Platforms have to be willing to link to other platforms for this to work though.

@z428 When we consider viewing #Pixelfed, #Friendica, #Mastodon, etc. "platforms" via the same client app, usage of the same client to server API (#ActivityPub #C2S) looks promising. But in the simplest implementation we will see only "timelines" of text and media.
Features like "Stories" and "Portfolio" require organizing, grouping of some "activities" of that timelines.
"Conversation" is the limited way to "group"...
