Will fully admit I am in love with bee-mimic hoverflies 😍 They are so curious and gentle!
They are hopeless at listening to advice, though!! 🤣 I told this one it would get lost if it came in the house, but did it listen?! Oh, no. 🤭
Such a gentle creature. Invited it to climb on my hand, which it did, so I could slowly walk to the garden for it to fly away…
Have a feeling I may be doing this all afternoon as I can hear a couple more… oops! Not complaining 💚 As long as I can rescue them all!
Second flower - yay! Another anemone, I believe. (Got a whole load of “anemone blanda mixed” bulbs.) This one looks like it may be a little deformed but it is loved nonetheless!
(Does anyone say anemone as “anemomlamy” or similar in their heads?!! No? Ok just me 😆)
Spring bulbs update! First flower! ✨
Yay!
Hello, little anemone 😍 Thank you for surviving and not being eaten… and for giving me a boost today 🥰
Just some little happy finds in my little yarden!
One is a little violet flowering plant that popped up between the cracks and the other is a forget-me-not.
Having relaxed gardening habits means we get all sorts of surprises! As I type this there are two tiny mice enjoying some “bird” food and “bird” bath, happy bees and many bee-mimic hover flies.
Was going to save this for #SilentSunday, but couldn’t wait!
These are some bluebells! Native English ones. They take a year or so to establish before they flower and each year I forget where they are and worry I’ve disturbed them so they won’t flower the next year (happens sometimes! Just get lots of leaves!)
But yay! Look at all these buds!
Oh, and someone got hungry by the looks of it! 🐭
Baby plants update!
Background for anyone who missed previous posts: I used up some seeds from seed packets in the cupboard (snap dragons and hollyhocks) and also harvested some from the garden (hollyhocks). They’ve been growing on my windowsill in a makeshift greenhouse (seed tray inside clear plastic bag!)
I finally re-potted them!
I have probably broken every rule in the gardener’s rule book, but this is one little hobby that I’m trying to just “do”… and not get too stuck on the overwhelming amount of information and advice there is online. (I love advice via comments on Mastodon though! So much easier to digest than a search engine search).
My only hope is that the babies survive! Snapdragons were very smol. But with me having planted way too many per section in the seed tray, I wanted to see if I could separate them a little before they get too big.
Now I have pots everywhere! Some on the same windowsill inside, but without the greenhouse plastic bags. Some outside in plastic pots. And just a few little snapdragons I put into an actual proper pot outside.
Will keep a close eye on them and watered. Eeeee!
[Edit to correct typos / autocorrect interference!]
Another update on the spring bulbs!
Look how many are growing up! Wow! 🤩
I have no clue what I’m doing, too! 🤣
There are some gaps where I swore I planted some bulbs. So either I forgot that they’re later-growing ones or they’ve been munched by hungry wildlife! However, haven’t seen any holes in the compost here like I have in the other pots. Have approximately one billion snap dragon seedlings now so plenty of things available to plug the holes if needed!
