On this date in 1782, Pennsylvania militiamen perpetrated the Gnaddenhutten massacre against indigenous Lenape and Munsee people in what was then called Ohio Country.

It did not matter that these people had converted to Christianity. It did not matter that they were pacifists.

They killed 96 defenseless people in cold blood as they prayed and sang hymns.
